TRAVEL INFORMATION AND
WEATHER
Travel
smart! Storms and other
types of severe weather
can happen when you
might not be prepared
for it.
There
are ways to avoid some
of it, but not all.
Here are some tips:
Tornadoes
can occur year round,
but most likely in the
months of April, May
and June. Most twisters
happen in the region
of the plains between
the Rocky Mountains
and the Appalachian
Mountains.
Lightning
storms may also occur
just about everywhere
from April through September.
Hurricanes are most
likely along the Gulf
and lower Atlantic states
between June and November.
Having said that, remember,
there are always exceptions.
There
are some things you
can do to lessen your
chances of being exposed
to driving in extreme
weather conditions.
Go on the Internet and
find out the best time
to visit your destination.
Every state and some
city websites have "best
time to visit" guides
on line. Massachusetts
is particularly nice
in the spring, for example.
Pay
attention to the weather
forecasts on television.
Usually, the local news
will identify the county
where weather"
watches" and "storm
warnings" are happening.

Make
a point to find out
the name of the county
you are camped in, and
make sure you understand
where you are in relation
to news reports. Listen
to the National Weather
Broadcasts which are
reported 24 hours a
day. It will save you
quite a bit in frustration
or etting caught in
hazardous situations!
